Your TheraLens® Treatment Journey

What to Expect, Step by Step

TheraLens treatment for BVD isn’t a single appointment and a pair of glasses. It’s a structured, clinician-guided process designed to get you the best possible symptom relief. Here’s exactly how it works.

The big picture: two phases, about four to eight weeks

Your treatment happens across two visits, spaced a few weeks apart. This isn’t to slow things down — it’s because your eyes need time to relax and adjust before your specialist can fine-tune your prescription to its full strength. Rushing the process leads to weaker results. Taking it in steps leads to lasting relief.

Phase One · Getting Started (Weeks 1–4)

Step 1: Your NeuroVisual® Evaluation + First Pair of TheraLens

Your first visit includes a specialized exam called a NeuroVisual® Evaluation. It measures the tiny misalignments between your eyes that standard eye exams don’t check for. Based on what your specialist finds, they’ll prescribe your first pair of TheraLens. Many patients feel noticeable relief during this first visit.

Step 2: Progressive Relaxation (the next few weeks)

As you wear your first pair, your eyes gradually settle into better alignment, like a custom orthotic helping your body find its natural posture. The microprism lenses support your eyes in the right position, and the built-up strain in your eye muscles starts to release. Some people, after an initial period of relief, may notice symptoms begin to return. This is common and actually a positive sign—it often means the visual system has relaxed enough to reveal the remaining fine adjustments needed.

This is why a follow-up evaluation is an important part of the process, allowing us to fine-tune the prescription for continued improvement.

Phase Two · Refinement (Weeks 4–6)

Step 3: Progress Exam + Updated Lenses

A few weeks later, you come back for a follow-up. Your specialist checks how your eyes have adapted and fine-tunes your TheraLens prescription for even better alignment and comfort. This refined pair is where most patients experience the full impact — often 80% or greater symptom relief.

Step 4: Ongoing Support

After your initial treatment, most patients just need an annual check-up and updated TheraLens prescription to stay comfortable. If symptoms ever return or change, your specialist is there to help — it’s ongoing care, not a one-and-done transaction.

In short: most new patients complete treatment with two pairs of TheraLens — a starter pair and a refined pair about a month later.

Questions people usually ask at this point

How fast will I feel better?
Many people notice relief at their very first fitting. Most feel significant improvement within the first week or two. Full results come after the refined pair.

Is the process uncomfortable? The adjustment is gradual and gentle, though each person's visual system responds differently. Most patients notice relief rather immediately, while others take a bit longer to adjust to their updated prescription. A brief settling-in period in the first few days to a week is normal. If your lenses cause discomfort within the first few days, reach out to your specialist for guidance and a possible prescription check.

How many appointments will I need? Two visits for the initial treatment, then an annual check-up to keep things current. Patients who have a more complex medical history (e.g., concussion or head injury) may require additional exams throughout the treatment process.

What about the long term? Most patients maintain their relief year after year with annual visits and updated lenses. TheraLens is designed for lasting stability.
